“Ales, Tales & Taverns” Walk Brings Newcastle’s Pubs to Life for Father’s Day

Local historian and heritage advocate Jenna Goodwin, known as “The Red Haired Stokie” is teaming up with Newcastle-under-Lyme BID to bring “Ales, Tales & Taverns” a historic pub walk to Newcastle on Sunday 15th June.  Coinciding with both Father’s Day and National Beer Day, this immersive walking tour offers a unique opportunity to explore the history of the town’s pub culture.

Starting at 1:00pm at The Guildhall, participants will embark on a three hour journey through the streets of Newcastle-under-Lyme whilst you uncover the stories of Newcastle’s lost, surviving and legendary drinking establishments, exploring how pubs have adapted and endured through the centuries.

“My recent walking tour in Newcastle-under-Lyme only scratched the surface of the town’s incredible pub history,” says historian Jenna Goodwin. “This place was once bursting with coaching inns and bustling alehouses that served generations of locals and travellers alike. Through the ‘Ales, Tales & Taverns’ tour, we explore not just the fascinating history of the ale trade, but also the architecture and evolution of the buildings themselves. We’ll visit pubs still serving the community today, where people can raise a pint, hear the stories and celebrate National Beer Day and Father’s Day by connecting with the heritage of the local area.”
