Appetite and ArtsKeele present Featured Exhibition

Appetite and ArtsKeele present Featured, a new exhibition to be showcased at Newcastle Common.

Featured is a collection of artworks created by artists from Staffordshire and Shropshire recently exhibited as part of the Three Counties Exhibition 2023 on show at Burslem School of Art.

This capsule collection allows people to see work shortlisted by Appetite’s Supper Club, our community decision-makers, for the Audience Choice Award and further Three Counties Awards winners. Our Audience Choice Award is awarded after a public vote. Our first-place winner was ‘Silent Agony’ by Kirsten Murray, and our second-place winner was ‘Familiar Face’ by Ethan Lemon.

Artist in Residence

One of the Featured artists in residence, who will be creating work on-site at Newcastle Common, is Charné Visser, a South African artist who immigrated to the UK in 2019. Her work explores themes of identity and representation through portraiture, experimenting with composition, various painting mediums and applications. Charné will work on a series of mixed media and expressive portraits as part of her residency. She will guide you through the creative activities and enjoy a friendly chat about her work.

Community Art

Charné invites attendees to add their unique mark to a collaborative work of art: a large-scale portrait covering the walls created by visitors to the exhibition. The piece’s theme is identity because being creative together helps us see different viewpoints and appreciate other stories.

Free Creative Activities

Free creative activities for all will take place; join in with the activities alongside artists in residence, Charné, and discover your creativity alongside artists from the Three Counties Exhibition.   Activities will include a greetings card workshop that will take place on Fridays and Saturdays.   All the activities and materials provided are free to enjoy (donations welcome); no experience is necessary.

Featured is on display at Newcastle Common, 23 High Street, ST5 1QZ (Red Lion Square), with activities every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. until the 30th of September.
