Castle Classics celebrates third successful event in Newcastle-under-Lyme

Newcastle-under-Lyme’s town centre welcomed the return of Castle Classics last weekend, organised by Newcastle-under-Lyme BID with support from 6 Towns Radio, the Red Haired Stokie and Envy Autos.

Now in its second year, with two previous events in October 24 and March 25, the event brought together more than 80 classic and retro vehicles across the High Street and Ironmarket, attracting car enthusiasts and weekend visitors alike. The line-up also included the striking “Rave On” Ford Zephyr,  a ceramic art car created by Duchess China 1888 for the British Ceramics Biennial 2023.

Events like Castle Classics continue to have a measurable impact on the town centre with footfall up 58% compared to an average Saturday, providing a strong boost for local shops, cafés and hospitality businesses.

A charity raffle held during the day raised over £80 for DEBRA, the charity supporting people living with the rare skin condition EB, with prizes kindly donated by Duchess China 1888.

Five category winners were announced:

Best Classic – Volvo Amazon (Doug Flyn)
Best Retro – VW Caddy (Paul Dulson)
Show & Shine – Morris Minor (Lesley Dale)
Most Unique – Chenworth (Dave Haslam)
Best in Show – Mini Cooper Sport (Graham Harper)

Charl Pearce, BID Manager, said:

“Castle Classics has established itself as one of our most popular and well-supported town centre events. It’s a great example of how working together with local partners like 6 Towns Radio and businesses such as Duchess China helps us create something that not only draws visitors in but also benefits the town’s traders and community. These collaborations are what keep the town centre vibrant and ensure there’s always something new for people to come and experience. We’re already planning ahead for next year’s event.”

The next Castle Classics will take place in March 2026 as part of the Newcastle-under-Lyme BID’s calendar of events.

Upcoming events include:

  • Sunday 23rd November – Light Up Castle Christmas Light Switch-On
  • Friday 6th December – Newcastle Lantern Parade by Castle Creatives and B Arts, with lantern workshops throughout November
  • Saturday 13th December – Castle Food & Drink Fest in collaboration with Independent Street
