Jubilee2 Summer Space Offer Launched for Young People

Young people in Newcastle-Under-Lyme can enjoy unlimited use of sports facilities at Council-run Jubilee2 leisure centre during the summer holidays for a heavily discounted cost.

Newcastle-Under-Lyme council is providing a limited number of subsidised summer memberships at Jubilee2 – supported by funding from Ben Adams, the new Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime – as part of Staffordshire’s Space programme for 2021.

Eight to 17-year-olds, who live in or attend an education provision in Newcastle-under-Lyme and register for a Lyme Card, can use the swimming pool, climbing wall and gym from Monday, 26 July to Friday, 27 August for just £5 per person.

Spaces are limited with 700 available on a first come, first served basis at Jubilee2 from 8am on Monday, 19 July.

Booking instructions, including important information relating to Covid-19, is available at on the Space 2021 website.

Cllr. Jill Waring, Cabinet member for leisure, culture and heritage, said: “One of the Council’s priorities is to create a healthy and active borough so we’re delighted to provide local children with the opportunity to enjoy unlimited use of our excellent leisure facilities during the summer holidays for as cheap as chips.

“It’s very easy for youngsters to get bored during the long school break so we want to encourage them to fill their spare time with fun, healthy and positive activities. The heavily reduced cost of the membership is amazing value and means they can swim, climb or exercise to their heart’s content for just £1 per week, alongside all the other amazing things happening as part of Space 2021.”

Space was originally a popular activities scheme led by Staffordshire Police during the 80s and 90s aimed at engaging with young people. The new version – co-ordinated by the Staffordshire Commissioner – has similar objectives. Fun activities are planned and delivered by a wider collaboration of public and voluntary organisations.

For more information, please contact Jubilee2 on 01782 616606 or e-mail space@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk .

Please note that the gym is available to young people aged 12 and over, once they have completed an induction.

More information about free or low cost Space events taking place in Newcastle-under-Lyme this year – such as multi-sports, dragon boat racing and tournaments – is expected to be available at www.staffordshirespace.uk/2021 early this coming week.
